Metaglas publishes the pressure and the temperature as separate limits rather than a pressure at a temperature, so the 232 psi (16 bar) is not conditional on running hot. The temperature range belongs to the 1.4462 duplex ring, and Metaglas lists a different range for each ring material, so the ring is the part that sets it.
The ring also runs warmer than the solvent, because its outer face sees room air while its inner face sees process. 3P Certz ran that thermal analysis on a Metaglas window in report ECR-210006-R1 and concluded the ring stays above its minimum with solvent entering at -65 °F (-54 °C). So the cold figure on this table is the ring's own rating, not a solvent temperature.

Our hydrocarbon systems are designed to 250 psi (17.2 bar). At 232 psi (16 bar) this window is the governing limit on such a system and the relief valve should be set to suit. If you want a published rating that clears 250 psi (17.2 bar) outright, use the Rayotek.
If you are certifying, recertifying or matching an as built document, confirm your window choice with your own certifier. That is worth doing whichever one you pick.
On vacuum, the 2 inch sight glass is the component that limits minimum pressure for the whole assembly. Metaglas publishes -1.0 bar (-14.5 psi) for this window, which is full vacuum, and our report puts the Rayotek at -15 psi (-1.0 bar). Either way the 2 inch window is the figure to design a vacuum step around.
What you also need
- Two windows per sight spool, one in each 2 inch port
- One 2 inch gasket per window, Viton or PTFE envelope
- One 2 inch high pressure clamp per window
- The spool itself, 4 inch or 6 inch, if you do not already have one

Handling
- Inspect before every install. A chipped, cracked or scratched window comes out of service and does not go back in
- Never modify, machine or re-face a sight window
- Clean with a soft cloth and a solvent compatible with borosilicate and 2205. No abrasives, nothing metal on the glass face

What pressure is it rated for?
232 psi, which is 16 bar, from Metaglas's own published ratings for the MetaClamp Type 80 in the 2 in ASME BPE size. Metaglas is the authority for this figure.
Is that rating tied to a temperature?
No. Metaglas publishes the pressure and the temperature as separate limits rather than a pressure at a temperature, so the 232 psi (16 bar) does not depend on running hot. The temperature range is -22 F to 536 F, which is -30 C to 280 C.
What sets the temperature range?
The ring material. Metaglas lists a different range for each ring option, and this window uses the 1.4462 duplex ring. Our system is designed to 250 psi. Is that a problem?

Is it in the certification report?
The window listed by part number in our current report, 3P Certz ECR-250902-R0, is the Rayotek 101142-001. We use both windows in our own builds. If you are certifying or recertifying a system, or matching an as-built, confirm your choice with your own certifier, which is worth doing either way.
How many do I need?
Two per sight spool, one in each 2 inch port.
What else do I need to install it?
One 2 in gasket and one 2 in high pressure clamp per window. Neither is included.

We stock both and fit both, and this one is on the shelf now. They are not identical on paper: Metaglas publishes 232 psi and -22 F to 536 F, which is 16 bar and -30 C to 280 C, against Rayotek's 300 psi and -40 F to 572 F, which is 20.7 bar and -40 C to 300 C. The Rayotek is also the one named by part number in our current certification report. If you are matching windows already on a system, match what is there.
What is 1.4462?
The European designation for 2205 duplex stainless. Same alloy, different name.
Can I run vacuum on it?
Yes. Metaglas publishes -1.0 bar, which is -14.5 psi, for this window, and that is full vacuum. On an N.B. Oler system the 2 inch sight glass is what limits minimum pressure for the whole assembly, so it is the figure to design a vacuum step around.
What do I do if it gets scratched or chipped?
Take it out of service and replace it. Do not run a damaged sight window and do not try to polish or re-face one.
