Stainless Keg with 6" Tri-Clamp Top, 304L, 15.5 Gallon and Pony Keg
ABOUT THIS PART
A standard stainless beer keg with the top cut out and a 6 inch tri-clamp ferrule welded in its place, so you get a large sanitary opening on a vessel that already rolls on every keg dolly. 304L stainless, built for ethanol handling. 15.5 gallon half barrel $180, 7.75 gallon pony keg $165.
Two half barrels and one pony keg left. When they are gone that is the end of the run unless somebody wants a batch.

If you need more than 15 psi (1 bar) to move ethanol out of a keg, something else in your setup is wrong, and turning the regulator up is not the fix. We are not going to pretend a keg is something it is not. It is a robust, sanitary, low pressure liquid vessel with a big lid.
Quarter barrel shells come in a squat and a slim version. We have one pony keg left and we will confirm its exact height and diameter before it ships if the footprint matters to you.
What we do to it, and what it is for
- We start with a finished keg, cut a 5.87 inch hole in the top, and weld a 6 inch tri-clamp ferrule in. About an hour of work per keg.
- The 6 inch opening is the whole point. A hand, a hose, a filter sock or a dip tube go straight in, and you can see and scrub the inside, instead of working through a 2 inch sanke opening with a bent wand.
- We made these for ethanol. Bulk storage and transfer, decanting, holding a batch between steps, anything where you want a sealed sanitary container one person can move and that does not cost what a jacketed vessel costs.
- The shell keeps standard keg dimensions, so it fits any keg dolly, rack, cooler or keg washer you already own.
What comes with it, and what does not
- The keg with the ferrule welded on. That is it.
- No cap, no clamp, no gasket. Almost everyone who buys one of these wants something specific on the lid, a port arrangement, a dip tube, a valve, a fitting for their own line, so we do not guess. Email info@nboler.com with what you want on the lid and we will build the cap to suit.
- Our 6 inch tri-clamp end caps, 6 inch high pressure clamps and 6 inch gaskets are sold separately and any of them will fit this.
- No dip tube. We do not stock one, and if you want one it goes on the custom cap.
- Not jacketed, so there is no way to heat or cool it through the wall.
- The sanke fitting is gone, so a beer coupler will not attach.
- Not rated for hydrocarbon service at pressure, and it cannot be certified as a pressure vessel.
Stock, and ordering a batch
Two half barrels and one pony keg on the shelf in Bend. When those sell the listing goes empty, and we have not run a batch of these in a long time. We can make them again, but it takes a minimum of 10 to 20 units to be worth setting up for. Email info@nboler.com if you want a quantity quoted. One or two at a time is not something we can restart production for, and we would rather tell you that than take your money and leave you waiting.
$220 was our regular price on the half barrel. These are the last units of an old run and we would rather see them working than sitting on the floor.

COMMON QUESTIONS
What is this?
A standard stainless beer keg with the top cut out and a 6 inch tri clamp ferrule welded in. You get a large sanitary opening on a vessel that already rolls on every keg dolly.
What is it made of?
304L stainless steel.
What pressure is it rated for?
30 psi (2 bar), which is the keg rating, and we have pressure tested them ourselves.
What pressure should I actually run?
15 psi (1 bar) or below. If you need more than that to move ethanol out of a keg, something else in your setup is wrong and turning the regulator up is not the fix.
Is it a pressure vessel?
No. No ASME stamp, not in any of our certification reports, and it cannot be certified as one. It is a robust low pressure sanitary vessel, and we are not going to call it anything else.
What is it for?
Ethanol. Bulk storage, transfer, decanting, holding a batch between steps. Anything where you want a sealed sanitary container one person can move.
Why cut the top off a keg?
Because a 2 inch sanke opening is miserable to clean and impossible to reach into. A 6 inch tri clamp opening lets you get a hand, a hose, a filter sock or a dip tube inside, and lets you actually scrub it.
Does it come with a lid?
No. No cap, no clamp, no gasket. Nearly everyone wants something specific on top, a port arrangement, a dip tube, a valve, a fitting for their own line, so we build the cap to order. Email info@nboler.com with what you need.
Do you sell a dip tube for it?
No, we do not stock one. If you want one it goes on the custom cap.
What clamp and gasket do I need?
A 6 inch tri clamp and a 6 inch gasket, both sold separately here. Our 6 inch tri clamp end caps also fit.
What size is the opening exactly?
We cut a 5.87 inch hole and weld a 6 inch tri clamp ferrule into it.
What are the dimensions?
The half barrel is a standard US half barrel, 23-3/8 inches tall and 16-1/8 inches in diameter, holding 15.5 gallons. The pony keg is a quarter barrel at 7.75 gallons. Quarter barrels come in a squat and a slim shape and we will confirm which one we have before it ships.
Will it fit my keg dolly?
Yes. The shell is a standard keg, so any dolly, rack or cooler sized for kegs will take it.
Can I still use a beer coupler on it?
No. The sanke fitting is gone.
Is it jacketed?
No. There is no way to heat or cool it through the wall.
How many do you have?
Two half barrels and one pony keg, in Bend.
Can I order ten of them?
Yes, and that is about the point where it makes sense. We are not currently in production on these and it takes a minimum of 10 to 20 units to be worth setting up for. Email info@nboler.com and we will quote a batch.
Can I order two more after these sell?
Not really. One or two at a time is not enough to restart production, and we would rather say so than take your money and leave you waiting. Email us anyway and we will tell you honestly where things stand.
Why is the half barrel discounted?
$220 was our regular price on the 15.5 gallon half barrel. These are the last units of an old run and we would rather see them working than sitting on the floor. The 7.75 gallon pony keg is priced at $165, which is its own price rather than a markdown, so it carries no compare-at.
