ABOUT THIS PART

A 1/4 inch K-type thermocouple probe with a 304 stainless stem and an ungrounded junction, in lengths from 1 inch to 64 inches. $80.00 to $260.00, stocked in Bend, Oregon.

Nonincendive for Class I, Division 1 locations per NFPA 70, Article 500.7, as documented in 3P Certz engineering report ECR-200023-R0. If your room is C1D1 rated, so is this probe.

What it is

  • 1/4 in. stem, 304 stainless, mineral insulated
  • Ungrounded junction, single element, so the sensing element stays electrically isolated from the sheath and from your vessel. On a system where static discharge is a named hazard, that matters
  • Standard size male K plug on top, not bare leads and not mini-K
  • Sheath rated to 899 °C (1650 °F). The plug end is the lower of the two limits, so keep it out of the heat
  • Bare stem. No compression fitting, no thermowell, no process connection of any kind

Lengths and prices

Length SKU Price
1 in. Thermo-Probe-1 $80.00
4 in. Thermo-Probe-4 $86.00
6 in. Thermo-Probe-6 $94.00
8 in. Thermo-Probe-8 $110.00
48 in. Thermo-Probe-48 $199.00
51 in. Thermo-Probe-51 $210.00
58 in. Thermo-Probe-58 $245.00
64 in. Thermo-Probe-64 $260.00

64 inch is the longest length we stock, and it is the one that goes on a tube in shell condenser. Other lengths are built to order. Tell us the depth you need.

Choosing a length

  • Every vessel with a sight glass takes one, so most systems take several
  • 4 in. is the standard on inline sight glasses and sight spools
  • Solvent tanks are all different depths. Measure from the fitting face to where you want to read, rather than guessing from the vessel size
  • Custom lengths are built to order and are not returnable, so measure twice

Fitment

  • Mounts through a 1/4 in. weld bore-through fitting, which is a separate part
  • Does not thread into an NPT port on its own, and does not include a compression fitting or a thermowell
  • To log a run you also need the K to mini-K extension cable. The probe ends in a standard male K plug and our four channel loggers take mini, so the cable is the adapter between them, not an accessory. We build them here

Stocked lengths usually ship the same day. Built-to-order lengths run 5 to 7 days. More on how these systems are certified in Certifications and Compliance.

FITSAny vessel, column or sight spool with a 1/4 inch weld bore-through fitting. The probe is a bare stem and the fitting is a separate part. 4 inch is the standard length on inline sight glasses and sight spools. Solvent tanks vary, so measure the depth you need before ordering. Pairs with the K to mini-K extension cable, which is what connects the probe's standard male K plug to a mini-K data logger, and with the 4-channel logger for run logging. Does NOT include a compression fitting, a thermowell or a process connection of any kind, and does not thread into an NPT port on its own.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Which length do I need?

Measure it. 4 inch is the standard on inline sight glasses and sight spools. Solvent tanks are all different depths, so measure from the fitting face to where you want to read rather than guessing from the vessel size. Custom lengths are built to order and are not returnable.

How many do I need?

One per vessel with a sight glass, so most systems take several.

How does it mount?

Through a 1/4 inch weld bore-through fitting, which is a separate part. The probe is a bare stem, with no threads and no compression fitting on it.

Is it rated for a C1D1 room?

Yes. Nonincendive for Class I, Division 1 locations per NFPA 70, Article 500.7, as documented in 3P Certz engineering report ECR-200023-R0.

Is the junction grounded or ungrounded?

Ungrounded. The sensing element is electrically isolated from the sheath and from your vessel, which matters on a system where static discharge is a named hazard.

What do I need to read it?

The probe terminates in a standard size male K plug. Our 4-channel data loggers take mini-K, so you also need the K to mini-K extension cable between them. It is the adapter, not an accessory, and we build the cables here.

How hot can it go?

The 304 stainless stem is mineral insulated and the sheath is rated to 899 °C (1650 °F). The connector body at the top is the lower limit of the two, so treat 899 °C (1650 °F) as the stem rating and keep the plug end out of the heat.

Can you build a length that is not listed?

Yes. Every length is built to order anyway, so tell us the depth you need. Non-stock lengths take 5 to 7 days and are not returnable.
