ABOUT THIS PART

Push-on hose adapters in 316 stainless, hose barb on one end and a tube connection on the other, $12.99 to $29.45. Superlok and Swagelok, 1/4 in to 3/4 in, on the shelf in Bend, Oregon. Part numbers are on this page so you can match what you already have.

Stub or compression, read this first

Two different tube ends get called the same thing, and ordering the wrong one is the most common mistake on this part.

End type Marked What it is Needs
Tube stub Superlok -T, Swagelok TA A bare length of tube that goes into a fitting body A nut and ferrule set, not included
Compression Superlok -S, Swagelok SL Nut and ferrule already built on Nothing else, goes straight onto your tube

Plumbing into an existing Superlok or Swagelok body, take the stub. Going straight onto a run of tube, take the compression. Most of what is on this page is a stub.

Sizes, part numbers and prices

First number is the hose, second is the tube. A 3/8 in barb by 1/2 in tube stub takes 3/8 in hose and plumbs into a 1/2 in fitting.

Configuration End Part number Price
1/4 in barb x 1/4 in tube Stub Superlok SPH-4-4T $12.99
3/8 in barb x 3/8 in tube Compression Superlok SPH-6-6S $15.95
3/8 in barb x 3/8 in tube Stub Superlok SPH-6-6T, Swagelok SS-PB6-TA6 $14.45, clearance
1/2 in barb x 3/8 in tube Stub Listed by configuration, the pieces carry no stamping $18.00
3/8 in barb x 1/2 in tube Stub Superlok SPH-6-8T-S316 $24.95
3/8 in barb x 1/2 in tube Stub Swagelok SS-PB6-TA8 $24.95
1/2 in barb x 1/2 in tube Stub Superlok SPH-8-8T, Swagelok SS-PB8-TA8 $29.45
3/4 in barb x 3/4 in tube Stub Superlok SPH-12-12T $21.95
  • One size is on clearance. The 3/8 in barb x 3/8 in tube stub, SPH-6-6T, is $14.45 with nine on the shelf. That is below what it costs us to replace, so we are not restocking at that price. Everything else on this page is normal stock at normal pricing. If that is the size you want, buy it now rather than later
  • The 3/8 x 1/2 is listed twice because we hold it in both brands and some buyers have to match a brand for their own paperwork. It is the same fitting
  • Dimensionally the two brands interchange. Superlok is built to the same specification and sold as a drop in replacement, and we run them against Swagelok on our own builds. Swagelok will not warrant an assembly containing another manufacturer's parts, which is a warranty position rather than a dimensional one
  • The 1/2 x 1/2 is the one we run on our own systems

Which hose, and how it goes on

  • These are push-on barbs, for push-on hose: Parker Push-Lok, Swagelok push-on and equivalents. On that hose the barb holds with no clamp, which is the point of the design
  • Not for our braided PTFE hose, which is built with swaged compression tube adapter ends and does not take a barb. Not for plastic tubing or garden hose. A push-on barb on hose it was not designed for is how a line comes off under pressure
  • Fit it dry and cold. No lubricant. The grip is friction between barb and hose bore, and oil or soap is exactly what defeats it. Push until it bottoms on the shoulder. It will fight you, and that is the fitting working
  • To remove, cut the hose lengthwise along the barb rather than pulling, so you do not score the barb
  • The joint is rated by the hose, not by this fitting. A 316 stainless barb is not the weak point. Use the working pressure of the hose you put it on

What these are not

  • Not NPT, not tri clamp. They do not thread into a pipe port
  • No nut and ferrule set included. Every tube stub version needs one
  • The hose is not included

Everything on this page is on the shelf in Bend, Oregon, and quantities are tight on several of them, so the count you see is real. Restock from our distributor runs a few days, except on the clearance size above. Email info@nboler.com if you need a quantity.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Why is the 3/8 x 3/8 tube stub cheaper than the pattern?

Because it is a clearance line. SPH-6-6T is $14.45 with nine on the shelf, which is below what it would cost us to replace, so we are not restocking at that price. The other seven sizes on this page are normal stock at normal pricing. If you want that size, this is the moment.

Stub or compression, which do I need?

Stub if you are plumbing into an existing Superlok or Swagelok fitting body. Compression if you are going straight onto a run of tube. A stub is a bare tube end and needs a nut and ferrule set; a compression end already has the nut and ferrule on it.

Do these come with a nut and ferrule set?

No. Every tube stub version needs one and it is sold separately.

How do I read the size?

First number is the hose, second is the tube. A 3/8 x 1/2 takes 3/8 in hose and plumbs into a 1/2 in fitting.

Can I use these on your braided PTFE hose?

No. That hose has swaged compression tube adapter ends and does not take a push-on barb.

Do I need a hose clamp?

Not on correct push-on hose. The barb holds on friction, which is what push-on hose is designed for.

How do I fit it?

Dry and cold, no lubricant. Oil or soap defeats the grip. Push until it bottoms on the shoulder. It will be hard work, which is correct.

How do I get it off?

Cut the hose lengthwise along the barb. Do not pull, you will score the barb.

What pressure are they rated for?

The hose sets the rating, not the fitting. Look up the working pressure of the hose you are using.

Why is the 3/8 x 1/2 listed twice?

We hold it in both Superlok and Swagelok, and some buyers have to match a brand for their paperwork. It is the same fitting either way.

Are Superlok and Swagelok interchangeable here?

Dimensionally yes, and we run them against each other on our own builds. Swagelok will not warrant an assembly with another manufacturer's parts, which is a warranty position rather than a dimensional one.
