Read this before you order. Silicone rates severe against butane, propane, heptane, pentane, hexane and isopropyl. It is not a hydrocarbon gasket and N.B. Oler does not recommend it for extraction service. It is on this site because silicone is the right answer for steam, hot water and food contact, and because people ask for it by name.
If you are running solvent, use Viton. If you are running isopropyl or going cold, use PTFE.

The numbers
- Temperature: -85 F to 450 F (-65 C to 232 C), the widest low-to-high span of any elastomer in this range
- Clamp torque: 30 in-lb, the elastomeric figure. PTFE takes 50
- Compliance: platinum cured, FDA compliant
- Good on ethanol, with minor effect
- Severe on butane, propane, heptane, pentane, hexane and isopropyl
N.B. Oler's certification reports are explicit on this point. 3P Certz ECR-200031-R0 states that component seals and gaskets may be PTFE, PEEK, FKM, Buna-N or Viton, and that EPDM, PVC and silicone are not acceptable materials for use in the extraction system. Silicone belongs on a steam or food line, not on a solvent line.

Replacement
- Replace every 3 to 6 months regardless of how it looks
- Replace immediately on any cracking, tearing, splitting or permanent deformation
- A gasket that has taken a compression set passes a cold leak check and then weeps once the line comes up to pressure. That is why interval beats inspection on a gasket
